  1. If you often create DVD on Mac, you must be familiar with iDVD software for Mac. IDVD is a useful tool to burn DVD with many DVD themes, but it is not easy to handle and will not update since Mac Lion. So you need an iDVD replacement software to burn DVD on Mac higher version including 10.13 macOS High Sierra, 10.12 macOS Sierra and 10.11 EL.
  2. There's no iDVD download for Mac at all on the Internet and Apple stopped to deliver it. However, you can install it if you have the iLife'11 box, which includes iDVD. If you have no, but still want to use iDVD on Lion. Try to buy it on Amazon.com.

iDVD on Lion OS X does not exist. Since iDVD is no longer offered on Mac OS X Lion, what to do when you want to burn videos to DVD on Lion? No worry! An iDVD for Lion alterantive can be the best helper for you.

Update

My recommendation is iSkysoft DVD Creator for Mac (now fully supports macOS High Sierra). It's a great DVD burning application similar to iDVD Lion that lets you author DVDs with beautiful menus and burn movies to DVD disc for playing on any home DVD player.

DVD Creator for Mac is a program with most likely features to iDVD, and even better than iDVD. Apart from burning video files to DVD, it also features slideshow making tools to transform your photos to slideshow with music, and then burn to DVD with your DVD burner on your Mac. Below I'll show you how to burn video and photo files to DVDs without Lion iDVD. If you're using Mountain Lion, see iDVD for Mountain Lion.

Video Tutorial on How to Use iDVD for Lion

Why There is No iDVD for Lion?

Not found iDVD on Lion? iDVD disappeared after upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion? Just take it easy. From Lion, iDVD no longer comes with every new Mac. It's ridiculous the latest Lion does not come with iDVD, but the Mac Book Pro, running Snow Leopard, has iDVD installed. The current Apple wants people to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via iCloud or the advanced Final Cut Pro X by Apple, rather than send them a DVD disc burned with iDVD for free.

Obviously, iCloud is not everyone's choice. DVD is still a convenient media to transfer movies, or to watch movies on TV. Here is the solution. If you think iDVD is a must-have, you can complaint on Apple's site (some people get free iDVD copy by this way), or if you have iLife '11 DVD, you can install iDVD from the DVD. The last way is to find an iDVD for Mac equivalent that works on Lion.

Download iDVD on Lion?

No, it's impossible. There's no iDVD download for Mac at all on the Internet and Apple stopped to deliver it. However, you can install it if you have the iLife'11 box, which includes iDVD. If you have no, but still want to use iDVD on Lion. Try to buy it on Amazon.com.

Thank you! Cute themes are …

Great. I'll give this a try.

You may be able to cause a good deal less damage by creating a 640:480 black
picture (JPEG works) in Photoshop (or graphic program of your choice) and drop that into the theme well over that insane rotating globe. Then create a simple one second or so of silence in Garage Band (or other audio production program) and drop that in. That will shut up the music.
Save both of these files in a production folder ( we use 'elements') so they'll be handy when you want them.
Obviously, you don't have to use black and silence, but that is what the thread title is.

Thanks for the tip...I have been looking for that possibility.
I just cant find the folders you are talking about: Idvd folder does not exist in 'app support'?

2nd solution Create a completely blank iDVD theme
Maybe it's retail vs. OEM version. I find the file in:
iDVD->contents->resource->0016-FullFrame.theme->Content->Resources->FullFrameTitle.pox->Matrial
D3E3A877-38F7-11D9-90CD-000A958D65FE.tif
to remove or rename doesn't work for me but ...
I modifiy the alpha channel of the tif with gimp (any App able to modify the alpha channel is ok.)
>'Threshold Alpha' converts partial transparency into all-or-none transparency< quote from Gimp help.
In Gimp ->Layer->Transparency->Threshold Alpha
Set it to 255, save it, replace the original file. Voila.

The path and filename referenced above were the same on this OEM install.
To do the same work in Photoshop, you can follow these steps:
0. Close iDVD
0.5 Open the file in Photoshop
1. Apple-A, Select All
2. Delete, Clear
3. Save the file
4. Re-start iDVD.

Note:
It may also be useful to strafe the tree and clear out all of the .tif files in each of the folders ending in .pox

:D I can't believe there is a way to do that!! I HATE themes
I have a problem though, when I open resources I only have these (empty) folders:
da.lproj
Dutch.lproj
English.lproj
fi.lproj
French.lproj
German.lproj
Italian.lproj
Japanese.lproj
ko.lproj
no.lproj
Spanish.lproj
sv.lproj
zh_CN.lproj
zh_TW.lproj
Help!! :s

Can I resurrect this topic from last year? I have tried removing the offending file D3E3A877-38F7-11D9-90CD-000A958D65FE.tif as suggested, and this doesn't work for me either. The other suggestions are either irrelevant to my system or are too complicated for me to follow!
Can anyone suggest another simple solution for this problem?

Actually there is a method that is exceedingly simple.
One little known trick in iDVD is that if you want to replace the theme background AND get rid of any drop-zones, you simply click-drag whatever picture you want to use for your theme onto the iDVD window, but BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE MOUSE BUTTON press the Option key and a menu will appear on the screen that gives you the choice of replacing just the background or replacing the background AND dropzones.
If you want a totally blank theme . . . simply create a blank white graphic (640 x 480 pixels in size works nicely) and just do the Option drop into any iDVD theme. You'll end up with a blank theme that still has the title in the size/font specified in the original theme (the one you replaced).
This makes a great way to put your own background in and do away with the drop-zones so you can add your own titles etc. Of course if you want some other pictures that are transparent on top of the background, you'll have to do that yourself with the photo editing program of your choice.

Ok, I gave this a try, but when I hit Option i was only given 2 choices. 'Replace Background' and 'Create Slideshow'. There is no 'replace background & dropzones' option. When I choose 'Replace Background' It only replaces the background, not everything else along with it.
Please help! I really don't want to end up using Encore! ;)
